Cofounder & Secretary ABCF
“Through the ABCF I’m fighting back against my own breast cancer by lobbying for a national screening programme and the provision of superior medicines in Malta and Gozo.”
Esther Sant broke new ground with regards to breast cancer activism in Malta, by creating a local forum linked to the European Breast Cancer Coalition: Europa Donna.
When breast cancer struck in the year 2000 at the age of 36, she reacted by actively contributing to the Breast Cancer Support Group as Assistant Secretary and later co-founding The Action for Breast Cancer Foundation in March 2007, together with Helen Muscat. The foundation is affiliated with UICC – The International Union Against Cancer and HEAL Health & Environment Alliance. The foundation is continuously evolving and with the efforts of all members of the committee ABCF prompted the change in breast cancer policy and plan in the Maltese islands.
Esther is a survivor who is passionately involved in all spheres of the foundation’s work including the organisation of specialist courses on breast cancer for both healthcare professionals and volunteers and is a key driver of media information campaigns about the impact of breast cancer in The Maltese Islands.
Last but by no means least, Esther and her husband Raymond have three sons, Patrick, David and Bernard, and as well as being instrumental to the ABCF, she is a Co-Director of “S.S. Lifts Ltd”, the family business.
