Jenny Oakley

Committee Member

At the age of 29 after having all different kinds of jobs and careers ranging from policewoman to shopkeeper, I finally found the time to go back to university and do what i was born to do. My husband, my 6 year old son (at the time), my mom, dad and sister watched me pick up my diploma on that september day in 2007, and from that day forward my life changed forever. I reached what i thought was the ultimate goal in my life, i could finally call myself a nurse. Never did i realise what an impact it would have on my life. After a brief year working in hospital i joined the M.M.D.N.A and have been there ever since.

A chance meeting with Helen Muscat found myself and my sister volunteering our time to help with the first Walk for Life held about a year ago. Then we helped with another event and another, i was soon asked to join the team as a committee member and now a year later and several events later I handle most of the event organisation, fund raising and social networking. (find us on facebook)

This year alone I helped organise 2 pink parties, a pink afternoon tea, and a pink jazz night. We were also the main beneficiaries for a 3 day event at the Meamchic womens fair, where we held a fundraising zumba event. We also had several Touch, Look and Check promotions in the local community.

I am honoured to be a member of such a determined, motivated and dedicated team. I truly believe that the work we do has changed for the better the way breast cancer affects Maltese women and their families, and how it will affect our future generations.

I am a busy mom and housewife and this year i will be going back to the classroom, were i will be studying B.Sc. in community nursing part time, and I am also a nursing mentor. I will continue to work full time with the M.M.D.N.A, and will continue my constant involvement with ABCF.
